Sevastova, Elise Mertens, Kenin, Yafan enter QFs of WTA Mallorca Open

Patna : World No 12 Anastasija Sevastova, 29, Latvia, World No 21 Elise Mertens, 23, Belgium, World No 30 Sofia Kenin, 20, USA, and World No 58 Wang Yafan, 25, China, entered the quarter-finals of WTA Mallorca Open, Spain, a grass court tournament, on June 19, 2019, evening.

Sevastova crushed World No 47 Ajla Tomljanovic,  26, Australia, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round at Santa Ponsa Tennis Club, Mallorca, to reach the QFs. Sevastova broke Tomljanovic’s service 5 times in the match besides winning 9 games in a row.

Elise Mertens beat former US Open Champion and World No 115 Samantha Stosur, 35, Australia, 6-3, 6-3 in the second round. Mertens broke Stosur’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke her service only once. Mertens also won 4 games in a row in the match. Both the players served 2 Aces each.

Wang Yafan beat World No 57 Alison Van Uytvanck, 25, Belgium, 7-6, 6-3 in the second round. Wang won 4 break points in the match to 3 by Uytvanck. Wang won 4 games in a row in the match to 2 by Uytvanck. Wang will face Sevastova in the QFs on June 21.

Kenin advanced to the QFs after her second round opponent and World No 63 Ons Jabeur, 24, Tunisia,  retired trailing 2-6, 0-2. Kenin will face Mertens in the QFs on June 21, 2019.
