Patna : England scored a massive 397/6 in 50 overs against Afghanistan in the 24th match of ICC World Cup at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, UK, on June 18, 2019, with a marauding Eoin Morgan (captain) scoring 148 in 71 balls hitting 4 fours and 17 sixes (a world record in ODIs), Joe Root scoring 88 in 82 balls with 5 fours and a six, and opener Jonny Bairstow scoring 90 in 99 balls hitting 8 fours and 3 sixes.

Moeen Ali remained unbeaten on 31 in 9 balls hitting 1 four and 4 sixes while opener James Vince made 26. England had won the toss and opted to bat. Jos Buttler fell to Dawlat Zadran for 2. Ben Stokes also fell to Zadran for 2. Bairstow and Root added 120 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Morgan, in a sensational batting, demolished the Afghanistan bowling attack particularly its star spinner Rashid Khan by scoring 102 runs in sixes (17 sixes). Rashid Khan leaked 110 runs in 9 overs without taking any wicket, the worst bowling figure in ICC World Cups. Morgan added 189 runs with Joe Root for the 3rd wicket. The England captain completed his century in 57 balls.

For Afghanistan, Dawlat Zadran took 3/85 in 10 overs while Captain Gulbadin Naib took 3/68 in 10 overs.
