Patna : The Election Commission of India (ECI) will hold polls on July 5, 2019, to fill six casual vacancies in the Rajya Sabha ( Council of States) from Bihar, Odisha, and Gujarat. The poll notification will be issued on June 18, 2019.

In Bihar, poll will be held to fill up one vacancy caused due to election of Ravi Shankar Prasad to the 17th Lok Sabha while in Gujarat polls be held to fill up vacancies caused to election of Shah Amitbhai Anil Chandra and Smriti Zubin Irani to the Lok Sabha.

In Odisha, elections will be held to fill up three casual vacancies. Achyutanands Samanta has been elected to the Lok Sabha while Pratap Keshri Deo  has been elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik had resigned from his seat on June 6, 2019, according to a PIB release.
