Patna : England defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets in an ICC World Cup warm-up match at Kennington Oval, London, on May 27, 2019, opener Jason Roy scoring an unbeaten 89 in 46 balls hitting 11 fours and 4 sixes. Roy added 77 runs for the first wicket with Jonny Bairstow, who fell to Mohammad Nabi for 39 in 22 balls hitting 7 fours and a six.
Joe Root remained unbeaten on 29 in 37 balls with 3 fours. Replying to Afghanistan’s 160 all out in 38.4 overs, England scored 161/1 in justly 17.3 overs. England won the toss but opted to bowl.
Batting first, Afghanistan were all out for 160 with opener Noor Ali Zadran scoring 30 in 35 balls with 5 fours and Mohammad Nabi scoring 44 in 42 balls hitting a four and 3 sixes. Captain Gulbadin Naib scored 14 in 26 balls with 1 four While Hasmatullah Shahidi was run out for 19.
For England, Jofra Archer took 3/32 in 5.4 o ers while Joe Root took 3/22 in 6 overs. Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali took one wicket each.
