Patna : World No 42 Johanna Konta, 28, Britain,  reached final of Italian Open on May 18, 2019, beating World No 4 in WTA rankings Kiki Bertens, 27, Netherland, in a tough three-set contest at Foro Italico, Rome, Italy, in a massive upset in the tournament. Konta beat Bertens, the winner of Madrid Open title on May 11, 2019, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 coming from behind. Konta had reached the SFs of Australian Open in 2016. She had also reached SFs of Wimbledon in 2017.

Konta broke Bertens’ service 6 times in the match while the latter broke her service 4 times. Both the players won 60 service points each. Bertens, however, hammered 10 Aces in the match to just 1 by Konta. But, she also committed 10 double faults to 3 by Konta. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.
