Patna : About 35.22 % of 1.38 crore voters had exercised their franchise till 1 pm in 8 parliamentary constituencies (PCs) of Bihar that went to polls in the sixth phase on General Elections on May12, 2019. A polling officer was killed at a polling station in Sheohar PC in a freak incident of firing by a Homeguards Jawan before polling started in the constituency. The incidents of malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were reported from some polling booths. Polling began at these booths after rectifying the technical problems.
A polling officer was killed at a polling station in Sheohar constituency when a Homeguards Jawan accidently fired from his rifle whien he was cleaning his gun before the start of polls in the morning, according to police. The injured polling officer identified as Shivendra Kishore was admitted to a hospital where he died. The Homeguards Jawan was arrested, police said.
The eight PCof Bihar where polling is on are : Valmikinagar, Paschimi Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Maharajganj, where altogether candidates including 16 female candidates are in fray. Valmikinagar, Paschimi Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Vaishali, Siwan, and Maharajganj PCs are General Seats whereas Gopalganj PC is reserved for SC.
Prominent candidates whose electoral fate will be decided on May 12 include Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh (Purvbi Champaran), senior RJD leader and former Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh ( Vaishali), BJP sitting MPs Rama Devi (Sheohar), Janardan Singh Sigriwal (Maharajganj), and Sanjay Jaiswal (Paschimi Champaran).
In Jharkhand, 46.64 % polling was recorded till 1 pm. Four PCs of Jharkhand went to polls on May 12.
