MI beat CSK by 6 wickets in Qualifier 1 to reach IPL-12 final

Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) reached the final of IPL-12 defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets in the Qualifier 1 at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on May 7, 2019, late night, with Suryakumar Yadav scoring an unbeaten71 in 54 balls with 10 fours and Ishan Kishan scoring 28 in 31 balls hitting 1 four and a six. Replying to CSK’s 131/4 in 20 overs, MI scored 132/4 in 18.3 overs. MI had earlier defeated CSK twice in league stage in IPL-12. CSK would now have to win Qualifier 2 to reach the final. Suryakumar Yadav was named Player of the Match.

It was a clinical chase as MI batsmen did not panic despite losing two early wickets that too of their star openers Rohit Sharma  captain) and Quinton de Kock. Rohit Sharma fell to fast bowler Deepak Chahar for 4 in the first over itself with only 4 runs on board. De Kock fell to spinner Harbhajan Singh for 8 making it 21/2. But, then Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan steadied the innings adding 80 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ishan Kishan fell to spinner Imran Tahir making it 101/3. Krunal Pandya too fell to Tahir for zero and it was 101/4.

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya then added 31 runs for the 5th wicket. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 13 in 11 balls with 1 four. Suryakumar Yadav had scored an unbeaten 46 in MI’s last match against KKR on May 5, 2019.

Earlier, electing to bat after winning the toss, CSK had scored 131/4 in 20 overs with captain M S Dhoni scoring an unbeaten 37 in 29 balls with 3 sixes while Ambati Rayudu scored an unbeaten 42 in 37 balls with 3 fours and a six. CSK had lost their first four wickets for 65 runs only. Dhoni and Rayudu added 66 runs for the 5th wicket. Openers Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson scored 6 and 10 runs respectively. Suresh Raina fell to Jayant Yadav for 5 while Murali Vijay fell to spinner Rahul Chahar for 26.

For MI, Rahul Chahar took 2/14 in 4 overs while Krunal Pandya took 1/21 in 4 overs. Jayant Yadav took 1/25 in 3 overs. It was MI’s 4th consecutive win against CSK. Rohit described Suryakumar Yadav as a very good player of spin bowling.
