Patna : World No 9 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings and 3rd seed Jonatan Christie, 21, Indonesia beat World No 16 and 7th seed N G Ka Long Angus, 24, Hong Kong, in straight games in the final to win the men’s singles title at Barfoot & Thomson New Zealand Open 2019 at Auckland on May 5, 2019.

Reigning Asian Games Champion Jonatan Christie also know as ‘Jojo’ beat N G Ka Long Angus 21-12, 21-13 in 39 minutes in the final at Eventfinda Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand, to lift the men’s singles title on May 5. Jonatan won 42 rallies in the match to 25 by Angus. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Angus. Angus, however, still leads Jonatan 4-3 head to head.

Angus had defeated five-time former World Champion and two-time Olym;pic Gold Medallist Lin Dan, 35, the 7th seed, in the semi-finals in straight games 21-13, 21-11. Jonatan Christies had defeated World No 11 Kanta Tsuneyama, the 5th seed, in the semi-finals on May 4, 2019.
