Patna : World No 20 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings B Sai Praneeth, India, and World No 26 H S Prannoy, India, advanced to the 2nd round of Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open at Eventfinda Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand, on May 1, 2019.

Praneeth beat World No 41 Subhankar Dey, India,  in a three-game thriller 21-17, 19-21, 21-15 in the first round in 71 minutes. Praneeth won 61 rallies in the match to 53 by Dey. Both the players won 4 consecutive points each in the match.  Praneeth now leads Dey 1-0 head to head.

Prannoy beat World No 50 Loh Kean Yew, Singapore,  21-15, 21-14 in 37 minutes to enter the 2nd round of the tournament. Prannoy won 42 rallies in the match to 29 by Yew. He won 6 consecutive points to 4 by Yew. Prannoy now leads Yew 2-0 head to head.
