Patna : World No 18 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, upset World No 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, in the 3rd round  to advance to the quarter-finals of ATP Monte-Carlo Masters, Monaco. Fognini beat Zverev in straight sets 7-6, 6-1 in 1hr 30 minutes at Monte-Carlo Country Club on April 18, 2019.

Zverev though fired 6 Aces in the match to none by Fognini. But, Zverev also committed 4 double faults to none by his opponent. Fognini broke Zverev’s service thrice while the latter broke his service once. Fognini won 5 games in a row in the match to 2 by Zverev. Fognini will face World No 13 Borna Coric, 22, Crotia, in the QFs.

World No 48 Dusan Lajovic, 28, Serbia, upset World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 25, Austria, 6-3, 6-3 in 3rd round in 1hr 32 minute to enter the QFs of the tournament. Lajovic broke Thiem’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke his service twice. He will face World No 96 Lorenzo Sonego, 23, Italy, in the QFs on April 19, 2019.
