Patna : World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, and World No 3 and 2017 World Champion Nozomi Okuhara, 24, Japan, will clash in the women’s single final of Singapore Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 category tournament, at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore, on April 14, 2019.
Tai Tzu, the winner of 23 career titles, edeged past World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, 15-21, 24-22, 21-19 in 57 minutes in the semi-finals on April 13, 2019. Top seed Tai Tzu won 60 rallies in the match to 62 by Yamaguchi. She won 6 consecutive points to 7 by Yamaguchi, the 3rd seed. Tai Tzu now leads Yamaguchi 10-7 head to head.
Okuhara, the 2nd seed, brushed aside World No 6 P V Sindhu, India, 21-7, 21-11 in 37 minutes in the semi-finals. Okuhara, who had defeated World No 9 Saina Nehwal, India, in the quarter-finals on April 12, was all over Sindhu in their semi-finals match. Okuhara won 42 rallies in the match to just 18 by Sindhu. She won 6 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Sindhu. The two players are locked 7-7 head to head.
