KKR beat RCB by 5 wickets in 17th match of IPL-12, Russel scores 48 in 13 balls

Patna : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 5 wickets in the 17th match of IPL-12 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on April 5, 2019, with West Indian Andre Russel scoring an explosive unbeaten 48 in just 13 balls hitting 7 sixes and a four and opener Chris Lynn scoring 43 in 31 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. KKR scored 206/5 in 19.1 overs. Russel, who demolished the RCB bowlers, was named Player of the Match.

Tim Southee’s bowling figure was 0/61 in 4 overs while Mohd Siraj’s figure was 0/36 in 2.2 overs. Marcus Stoinis’s figure was 0/28 in 1.4 overs.

KKR scored 23 runs in the 18th over bowled by Marcus Stoinis and 29 runs in the 19th over bowled by Tim Southee. RCB captain Virat Kohli was very upset with the way his bowlers bowled the last 4 overs. KKR needed 68 runs in 26 balls when Russel came on the crease. They needed 54 runs in the last 3 overs.

KKR attained the target of 206 in 19.1 overs. Russel and Shubham Gill added 53 runs for the 6th wicket in which the latter’s contribution was just 3 runs. Robin Uthappa scored 33 in 25 balls hitting 6 fours. Opener Sunil Narine scored 10 while Dinesh Karthik scored 19 in 15 balls hitting a four and a six.  Nitish Rana scored 37 in 23 balls hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. The scoring rate had slowed down considerably after the dismissals of Lynn and Uthappa.

KKR had won the toss but opted to bowl. Batting fist, RCB scored 205/3 in 20 overs with captain Virat Kohli scoring 84 in 49 balls hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes and A B de Villers scoring 63 in 32 balls hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. Opener Parthiv Patel scored 25 while all-rounder Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on 28 in 13 balls hitting 3 fours and a six.
