Bagaha : Workers and  supporters of Mahagathaban (Grand Alliance) constituents are over upset over delay in the announcement of name of candidate for Valmikinagar parliamentary constituency by the Congress Party. Valmikinagar, serially the first parliamentary constituency in Bihar, was a citadel of the Congress from the first Lok Sabha elections till 1989 barring 1977.

Several local leaders including Narakatiaganj MLA Vinay Verma, former MP from Gopalganj and AICC Member Purnmasi Ram, Sanjay Yadav, Madan Mohan Tiwari, MLA from Bettiah, AP Pathak, Pramod Kumar Singh, Dr Ajay Upadhyay and Brajesh Pandey are in the race for Congress  ticket to the seat.

Many congress workers like Ramashankar  Dubey, president block congress committee, Nandesh Pandey, Co-ordinator of Congress Party Kisan Cell, North Bihar, Ahmad Hussain, Nagar Congress President, Bagaha, have urged the Congress President Rahul Gandhi to nominate a local leader.

Meanwhile, former MP Purnmasi Ram has announced that if he is denied Congress ticket from Valmikinagar parliamentary constituency, he will file his nomination for the seat as an Independent. The former Minister said that he had unsuccessfully contested from the constituency twice and in 2004 had secured 89,101 votes as a BSP candidate while in 2014 as a Congress nominee he secured 2,46,218 votes.
