Patna : Tempers ran high on Patna Civil Court premises on March 29, 2019, after an altercation between a lawyer Shailesh Singh and an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of police Rajendra Rajak.
Talking to this reporter, lawyer Shailesh said that he was sitting on his seat at around 3.15 pm talking to one of his old clients who approached him while under custody for some legal help. He claimed that as he was talking to his client, an undertrial prisoner, Rajak used unparliamentary words against him (mean lawyer). “ASI was seeking some gratification for allowing his client to talk to him and I refused to grease his palm,” alleged the lawyer.
Shailesh alleged that after that Rajak lost his cool and attacked him with prisoner’s rope causing injuries to him. “The cop might have attacked me with a lathi as well but I was saved as some other lawyers who rushed there,” he claimed.
Meanwhile, other lawyers at the Civil Court got agitated over the incident and started demanding immediate action against the cop for allegedly assaulting a lawyer. Shailesh said that he has apprised District Judge and lawyer’s association of the
incident.
On getting information, City SP PK Das reached Civil Court premises. He told this reporter that allegations of both sides were heard patiently and investigation has started into the incident. Das said that he has directed DSP (Town) to probe into the incident. He said that it has been alleged that the said lawyer was putting pressure on the cop to allow the undertrial prisoner to talk on cellphone. The truth would come to the surface after investigation, he said.
Regarding any complaint from lawyer side, Das said that the lawyer has apprised District Judge of the incident.
