Patna : World No 5 Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, will face World No 23 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, in the second semi-finals of ATP Miami Open, Florida, USA, on March 30, 2019. World No 9 John Isner, 33, USA, will clash with Felix Auger-Aliassime, 18, Canada, in the first semi-finals on March 29, 2019, late night.

Federer swatted aside World No 7 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, 6-0, 6-4 in 1 hr 25 minutes in the quarter-finals at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, on March 29, 2019, to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament. Federer broke Anderson’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke his service only once.

Federer, who is bidding for his 4th Miami Open title, also won 8 games in a row in the match to 3 by Anderson. He served 3 Aces in the match to 4 by Anderson, who had defeated him in the QFs of Wimbledon 2018. Anderson committed 5 double faults to 2 by Federer.  Federer’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (80% & 60 %) was much better than that of Anderson ( 59 % &41%). Federer now leads Anderson 6-1 head to head.

Shapovalov defeated World No 34 Frances Tiafoe, 21, USA, in a three-set thriller 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarter-finals in 2hr 15 minutes to advance to the semi-finals. Shapovalov broke Tiafoe’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke his service only once. He fired 7 Aces in the match to 5 by Tiafoe. Tiafoe committed 6 double faults to 1 by Shapovalov. Shapovalov won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Tiafoe. Shapovalov won 66 service points to 65 by Tiafoe.
