Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 runs in a nail biting 7th match of IPL-12 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on March 28, 2019, late night.
Chasing a target of 188 runs, RCB scored 181/5 in 20 overs. A B de Villiers remained unbeaten 70 in 41 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes while RCB captain Virat Kohli scored 46 in 32 balls with 6 fours. RCB needed to score 17 runs in the 20th over but could score only 10 runs including a six by A B de Villiers. RCB had won the toss but opted to bowl. Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match. MI had lost their first match to Delhi Capitals.
MI bowler Jasprit Bumrah turned out to be the hero for his team taking 3/20 in 4 overs while spinner Mayank Markande took 1/23 in 3 overs. Markande and Krunal Pandya bowled extremely well checking the flow of runs when A B de Villers and Virat Kohli were on the crease. Although Lashith Malinga had poor day conceding 47 runs in 4 overs without taking a wicket, he bowled a good last over giving away only 10 runs including a six. Hardik Pandya leaked 37 runs in 3 overs. Rohit Sharma made excellent bowling changes in the last few overs.
Batting first, MI scored 187/8 in 20 overs with captain and opener Rohit Sharma scoring 48 in 33 balls with 8 fours and a six while Suryakumar Yadav made 38 in 24 balls with 4 fours and a six. Yuvraj Singh scored 23 in 12 balls including 3 consecutive sixes while opener Quinton de Kock scored 23 in 20 balls with 2 fours and a six. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 32 in 14 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes.
For RCB, Yuzvendra Chahal took 4/38 in 4 overs while fast bowler Umesh Yadav took 2/26 in 4 overs. Pacer Mohd Siraj took 2/38 in 4 overs.
