Patna : Six Indian shuttlers : World No 7 Kidambi Srikanth, World No 15 Sameer Verma, World No 20 B Sai Praneeth, World No 24 H S Prannoy, World No 44 Subhankar Dey, and World No 55 Parupalli Kashyap, advanced to the second round of Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2019, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 500 level tournament, at Siri Fort Indoor,  New Delhi, India, on March 27, 2019.

Third seed Srikanth beat World No 37 Wong Wing Ki Vincent, Hong Kong, in a three-game thriller 21-16, 18-21, 21-19 in 57 minutes in the first round. Srikanth won 60 rallies in the match to 56 by Vincent. Both the players 6 consecutive points each in the match. Srikanth now leads Vincent 10-3 head to head.

Sameer Verma, the 5th seed, beat World No 29 Rasmus Gemke, Denmark, in straight games 21-18, 21-12 in 50 minutes in the first round. Verma won 42 rallies in the match to 30 by Gemke. Sameer won 5 consecutive point in the match to 4 by Gemke. Sameer now leads Gemke 2-0 head to head.

Praneeth beat World No 172 Kartikey Gulshan Kumar, 19, India, in a tough three-game contest 22-24, 21-13, 21-8 in 60 minutes in the first round. Kartikey won the first game but Praneeth made a strong comebaqck and won the next two games easily to advance to the second round. Kartikey won 64 rallies in the match to 45 by Kartikey. He also won 10 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Kartikey.

Prannoy defeated World No 17 Kantaphon Wongcharoen, the 8th seed, 14-21, 21-18, 21-14 in 68 minutes in the first round. Prannoy won 56 rallies in the match to 53 by Kantaphon. He won 7 consecutive points to 5 by Kantaphon. Pranoy now leads Kantaphon 2-1 head to head.

Subhankar Dey upset World No 9 and 4th seed Tommy Sugiarto, Indonesia, in three-games 14-21, 22-20, 21-11 in 78 minutes in the first round. Dey won 57 rallies in the match to 52 by Sugiarto. He also won 7 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Sugiarto. The two players are now locked 1-1 head to head.

World No 19 Khosit Phetpradab, Thailand, beat qualifier and World No 257 Kartik Jindal, India, 21-17 21-8 in 37 minutes in the first round.

Parupalli Kashyap upset World No 34 Lee Cheuk Yiu, Hong Kong, in a tough three-game contest 14-21, 21-18, 21-10 in 59 minutes in the first round. Kashyap won 56 rallies in the match to 49 by Yiu. He also won 9 consecutive points to 7 by Yiu. Kashyap leads Yiu 2-0 head to head.
