Patna : World No 97 Prajnesh Gunneswaran, 29, India, a qualifier, entered the 2nd round of ATP Indian Wells Masters 1,000 points tournament at Indian Wells, California, USA, on March 8, 2019, defeating World No 69 Benoit Paire, 29, France, in the first round.

Gunneswaran, playing his first ATP Masters 1,000 tournament, defeated Paire 7-6, 6-4 in a tough contest in the first round. Paire fired 7 Aces in the match though to just 1 by Gunneswaran. Gunneswaran broke Paire’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broker his service thrice. Both the players won 3 games each in a row. Paire, however, committed 7 double faults to 4 by Gunneswaran.

World No 58 Felix Auger-Aliassime, 18, Canada, also entered the 2nd round of the tournament beating World No 48 Cameron Norrie, 23, England, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. Aliassime broke Norrie’s service thrice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row. Aliassime fired 6 Aces in the match to just 1 by Norrie.
