Patna : World No 1 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings and reigning World Champion Kento Momota, 24, Japan, and World No 17 Kanta Tsuneyama, 22, Japan, entered the men’s singles quarter-finals of All England Badminton Championships 2019, a BWF World Tour 1,000 points tournament, at Arena Birmingham, England, on March 7, 2019.
Top seed Kento Momota beat World No 18 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, 20,Thailand, 21-19, 21-11 in 56 minutes in the second round. Momota won 42 rallies to 30 by Wangcharoen. He won 5 consecutive points to 4 by Wangcharoen. Momota now leads Wangcharoen 2-0 head to head.
Tsuneyama beat World No 10 Kenta Nishimoto, 24, Japan, 21-19, 21-13 in 52 minutes in the 2nd round to enter the QFs. Tsuneyama won 42 rallies to 32 by Nishimoto. He won 6 consecutive points to 3 by Nishimoto. The two players are now locked 1-1 head to head.
