Patna : World No 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, defeated World No 23 Gael Monfils, 32, France, in a very tough three-set contest in the semi-finals to reach the final of Dubai Tennis Championships, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament, at Dubai, UAE, on March 1, 2019.

Tsitsipas, the 5th seed, beat a resurgent Monfils 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the semi-finals in 2hr 59 minutes. Monfils fired 8 Aces in the match to 5 by Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas committed 7 double faults in the match to 4 by Monfils. He broke Monfils’ service twice while the latter broke his service thrice. Tsitsipas won 2 tiebreaks.

Monfils won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Tsitsipas. Both the players had a winning percentage of 73% each on their first serve. But, Tsitsipas’ winning percentage on his second serve was slightly better than that of Monfils.
