VKSU Senate meeting held amid pandemonium

Ara : The Senate meeting of Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, was held on February 28, 2019, amid pandemonium in the science block on the university campus, which was cordoned off. But, the leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), All India Students Association (AISA), and National Students Union of India (NSUI), as per their programme, registered their protest outside the meeting venue against the what they called anti-student budget and dissolution of student union earlier.

The activists of the NSUI took out procession from their office at Shaheed Bhawan to reach the VKSU where they had to protest the Senate meeting but police took about two dozen activists under their custody at Red Cross Building and detained them at Nawada police station.

The activists of ABVP and AISA reached the VKSU gate in procession and broke into the campus despite deployment of heavy police force and reached the meeting place shouting slogans against Acting VC Nand Kishor Sah. They were demanding cancellation of the Senate meeting and withdrawal of order dissolving the student union. They sat on dharana at the gate of the meeting place and tried to halt the proceeding of the Senate. They also scuffled with police who tried to stop them at the gate and when the activists did not stop, resorted to mild lathicharge in which half a dozen activists of the ABVP and AISA were injured.

The VKSU had to postpone the Senate meeting on January 23, 2019, due to aggressive protest of the students and the university rescheduled the date for the Senate meeting on February 28, 2019. The Governor cum Chancellor office had also reportedly directed the VKSU administration to hold the meeting of the Senate peacefully.

Acting VC, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah said that Senate passed a deficit budget for the financial year 2019-2020 and added that the elections to the Syndicate and the Finance Committee of the VKSU were also held after ten years and new members were elected for the next three years. He said election to eight post in the Syndicate and four post in the Finance Committee of the VKSU were held. He said that the VKSU has dissolved the student union and notification in this regard has already been issued. He said that the date of students union election has also been announced and it is likely to be held on April 3, 2019. He said as the student union election has is announced, no student representative was invited to the Senate meeting.

Student leaders : Amit Kumar, Pappu Kumar, Manish Kumar Duldul, and Bheem Yadav accused the Acting VC of dissolving the student union to save his position. They described the budget as anti-student and added that a huge amount has been spent in the name of proving transport facility to the student without providing the facility to them. They also accused Sah of implicating the student leaders in false case when they had gone to his chamber to have a dialogue with him. They demanded unconditional withdrawal of the case.
