A Zverev, Isner, Wawrinka, Millman, Norrie enter QFs of ATPMexican Open

Patna : World No 3 and 2nd seed Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, World No 9 John Isner, 33, USA, and World No 42 Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, entered the quarter-finals of Mexican Open, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament played on hard courts, at Acapulco, Mexico, winning their restive Round of 16 matches on February 28, 2019.

Zverev beat four-time former champion and World No 145 David Ferrer, 36, Spain, 7-6, 6-1 in the Round of 16. Zverev fired 9 Aces in the match to none by Ferrer. Zverev broke Ferrer’s service thrice in the match while the latter broke his service once. Zverev though committed 6 double faults to 2 by Ferrer. Zverev won 7 games in a row in the match to 3 by Ferrer.

Isner beat World No 57 Sam Querrey, 31, USA, 6-4, 6-4 in the Round of 16 to enter the quarter-finals. Isner fired 19 Aces in the match to 13 by Querrey, who committed 8 double faults. Isner broke Querrey’s service twice in the match besides winning 3 games in a row.

Isner will face World No 44 John Millman, 29, Australia, in the QFs. Millman beat World No 87 Peter Gojowczyk, 29, Germany, 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Kyrgios upset World No 2 and top seed Rafael Nadal, Spain, in the Round of 16.

World No 64 Cameron Norrie, 23, Great Britain, beat World No 25 Diego Schwartzman, 26, Argentina, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in the Round of 16 to enter the QFs. Norrie broke Schwartzman’s service 6 times in the match while the latter broke his service 5 times. Norrie fired 2 Aces to none by Schwartzman.

Norrie will face World No 71 Mackenzie McDonald, 23, USA, in the QFs. McDonald defeated World No 34 Frances Tiafoe, 21,USA, the 6th seed, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 in Round of 16. McDonald fired 10 Aces in the match to 9 by Tiafoe. McDonald broke Tiafoe’s service 4 times in the match while the latter broke his service once. Tiafoe committed 4 double faults in the match to 1 by McDonald. Both the players won 3 games each in a row.
