Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) beat South Africa (SA) by one wicket in the first test at Kingsmead, Durban, South Africa, on the 4th day of the play riding on an unbeaten by Kusal Perera, 28, in 200 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes, his second test century. Kusal Perera, who snatched victory from a disastrous position, was named Player of the Match for his superb batting display. Perera was involved in an unbroken 78 run partnership with fast bowler Vishwa Fernando for the 10th wicket. Sri Lanka have taken 1-0 lead in the two-test series.
Sri Lanka scored 304/9 in 85.3 overs to win the match. Sri Lanka had lost their 9th wicket at 226. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 48 in 79 balls with 6 fours.
Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne said winning in South Africa is a real proud moment. SA captain Faf du Plessis said that it was a great game of test cricket. He said Perera was unbelievable, he said.
South Africa had scored 235 in their first innings and 259 in the second innings. Sri Lanka had scored 191 in their first innings.
