Patna : New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the 1st ODI at McLean Park, Napier, New Zealand, on February 13, 2019, with opener Martin Guptil, 32, scoring an unbeaten 117 in 116 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes, his 15th ODI ton, and Ross Taylor scoring an unbeaten 45 in 49 balls with 6 fours. New Zealand now lead the 3-match ODI series 1-0. Chasing a target of 233, New Zealand scored 233/2 in 44.3 overs. Bangladesh had won the toss and opted to bat. Martin Guptil was named Player of the Match.

New Zealand opener Martin Guptil and Henry Nicholls added 103 for the first wicket. Nicholls fell to spinner Mehidy Hasan for 53 in 80 balls with 5 fours. Captain Kane Williamson fell to Mahmudullah for 11 making it 137/2. Guptil and Taylor added 96 runs for the third wicket.

Earlier, Bangladesh were all out for 232 in 48.5 overs with Mohammad Mithun scoring 62 with 5 fours and bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin scoring 41 in 58 balls with 3 fours. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das scored 5 and 1 run respectively. Soumya Sarkar fell to fast bowler Matt Henry, 27, for 30 while Mehidy Hasan fell to spinner Mitchell Santner for 26.

For New Zealand, fast bowler Trent Boult took 3/40 while spinner Mitchell Santner took 3/45. Mat Henry took 2/48 while fast bowler Lockie Ferguson took 2/44.
