Monfils beats Tsitsipas to reach SFs of ATP Sofia Open

Patna : World No 33 in ATP rankings Gael Monfils, 32, France, entered the semi-finals of ATP Sofia Open, an ATP World Tour 250 points tournament, at Sofia, Bulgaria, defeating World No 12 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, in straight sets in the quarter-finals on late February 8, 2019, night.

Monfils stunned the fast rising Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6 winning two break points in the match. He also won 3 games in a row in the match. Monfils, however, also committed 3 double faults. Tsitsipas had reached the semi-finals of Australian Open in 2019 where he lost to World No 2 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain.

Tsitsipas fired 6 Aces during the match to 5 by Monfils. Monfils’ winning percentage on both his first and second serve ( 94 % & 64%) was much better than that of Tsitsipas ( 72% & 50%). Monfils will face World No 16 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, in the semi-finals on February 9, 2019, night. World No 53 Matteo Berrittini, 22, Italy, will face World No 47 Marton Fucsovics, 26, Hungary, in the second semi-finals the same evening.
