Patna : India beat New Zealand (NZ) by 35 runs in the 5th ODI at Westpac Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand, on February 3, 2019, to win the five-match series 4-1.Chasing a target of 253, New Zealand were all out for 217 in 44.1 overs with wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal taking 3/41 in 10 overs, Mohammad Shami 2/35 in 8 overs, and Hardik Pandya 2/50 in 8 overs. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Kedar Jadhav took one wicket each.

Ambati Rayudu was named Player of the Match for scoring 90 runs. Mohammad Shami was named Player of the Series. India had lost the 2014 ODI series in New Zealand 0-4.

For New Zealand, Captain Kane Williamson scored 39 in 73 balls with 3 four while James Neesham was run out for 44 in 32 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Openers Colin Munro and Henry Nicholls scored 24 and 8 runs respectively. Both Munro and Nicholls fell to Mohammad Shami.

Munro scored 24 in 19 balls with 2 fours and a six. Ross Taylor was lbw to Hardik Pandya for 1. Wicketkeeper Tom Lathan scored 37 in 49 balls with 3 fours. Colin de Grandhomme fell lbw to Chahal for 11 with 2 fours while spinner Mitchell Santner fell to Hardik Pandya for 22 in 37 balls without hitting any four or six Toss. Astle fell lbw to Chahal for 10. Fast bowler Trent Boult fell to Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for 1. Matt Henry remained unbeaten on 17 in 9 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Henry hit Pandya for two consecutive sixes in his 8th over.

Earlier electing to bat after winning the toss, India were all out for 252 in 49.5 overs with Ambati Rayudu scoring 90 in 113 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes while all-rounder Hardik Pandya scored 45 in 22 balls with 2 fours 5 sixes. All-rounder Vijay Shankar was run out for 45 in 64 balls with 4 fours while Kedar Jadhav scored 34 in 45 balls with 3 fours.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan scored 2 and 6 runs respectively while Shubham Gill fell to Matt Henry for 7. Sharma fell to Matt Henry while Dhawan fell to Trent Boult. Wicketkeeper M S Dhoni fell to Trent Boult for 1. Henry also took the wicket of top scorer Rayudu. India made a disastrous start to their innings and were 18/4 after 9.3 overs. For New Zealand Matt Henry took 4/35 while Boult took 3/39. James Neesham took 1/39.

After the match, Captain Rohit Sharma lauded the batting of Rayudu, Vijay Shankar, Hardika Pandya and Kedar Jadhav. He described the ODI series victory as a great achievement.
