Patna : Seven passengers died and 30 others injured as 11 rear most coaches of train No. 12487 (Jogbani Anandvihar Terminal) Seemanchal Express derailed at Sahadei Buzurg Station in Vaishali district under Sonpur Division of East Central Railway on February 3, 2019, morning. Out of 11 derailed coaches, 3 coaches capsized. Sahdei Buzurg is a block in Vaishali district in North Bihar and is 48 km away from Patna.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh each to grievously injured, and Rs 50,000 each to persons who sustained simple injuries. Commissioner of Railway Safety/Eastern Circle shall conduct an inquiry into this accident.

Seven passengers lost their lives, 3 passengers were grievously injured, and 27 passengers sustained simple injuries in this  accident. Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board, Senior Railway Board officials, General Manager, East Central Railway, DRM, Sonpur, and other senior officers rushed to the accident site.

SPARME (Self propelled accident relief train and medical equipment) & Accident Relief Trains (ART) have reached the site. Twelve unaffected 12 coaches have been cleared from site along with passengers and moved to Danapur where additional coaches will be attached and the special train will move for Anand Vihar Terminal.

All the injured passengers were rushed to nearby Hospitals, District Hospitals and Railway Hospital. There are adequate number of doctors available at site and ambulances have been pressed into service. All medical expenses of the injured passengers will be borne by Railways. Free catering arrangements have been made at site, Patna, Hajipur and at hospitals for passengers. Commercial officers with teams have been deployed at Hajipur & Danapur. Arrangements for refunds to the passengers who do not continue their journey have been ensured at different stations. The rescue operation has been completed, according to a PIB release.

Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon has expressed his profound grief over the accident. He mourned the deceased and wished speedy recovery to those injured
