Patna : England, who had lost the first test by 381 runs, were bundled out for a modest 187 in 61 overs in their first innings on day 1 in the second test against West Indies (WI) on a grassy pitch at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on January 31, 2019, night, with Moeen Ali scoring 60 in 108 balls with 8 fours and a six and Jonny Bairstow scoring 52 in 64 balls with 9 fours and a six. West Indies won the toss but opted to bowl.

England captain Joe Root fell to  fast bowler Alzarri Joseph for 7 while Jos Buttler fell to pacer Jason Holder for 1. Openers Rory Burns and Joe Denly scored 4 and 6 runs respectively. Ben Foakes fell to fast bowler Shannon Gabriel for 35 in 89 balls with 4 fours. Sam Curran was out to fast bowler Kemar Roach for 6.

For West Indies, Kemar Roach took 4/30 in 15 overs while Shannon Gabriel took 3/45 in 15 overs. Alzarri Joseph took 2/38 while captain Jason Holder took 1/43. Kemar Roach took the wickets of Rory Burns, Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Sam Curran. He had taken five wickets in the first test.

West Indies were 30/0 in 21 overs at stumps on day 1 with openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell batting on 11 and 16 runs respectively.
