Tai Tzu remains World No 1 in BWF rankings, Sindhu World No 4, Saina World No 9

Patna : Asian Games gold medallist Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, and reigning Olympic and World champion Carolina Marin, 25, Spain, have been ranked World No 1 and World No 2 with 97,467 points and 86,566 points respectively in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on January 29, 2019.

Tai Tzu has retained her place but Carolina has jumped two places to be ranked World No 2 following her good showing at BWF Malaysia International and Indonesia Masters in January 2019. Carolina had reached final of both the tournaments.

Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, the 2017 World Champion, has slipped one place to be ranked World No 3 with 85,907 points from 20 tournaments. P V Sindhu, 23, India, the Olympic silver medallist, has also slipped one place to be ranked World No 4 with 84,264 points from 17 tournaments.

Chen Yufei, China, Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, He Bingjiao, China, and Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, remain World No 5, 6, 7 & 8 respectively. Saina Nehwal, 28, India, remains World No 9 but has 67,694 points from 16 tournaments. Saina had reached SFs of Malaysia Masters and won the Indonesia Masters title.

Rituparna Das, India, has slipped one place and is ranked World No 55 with 27,870 points from 11 tournaments. Vaishnavy Reddy Jakka, India, is ranked World No 61 with 25,765 points from 14 tournaments. Mugdha Agrey, India, is ranked World  No 72 with 22,170 points from 17 events.

Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli, India, has jumped 2 places to be ranked World No 74 with 21,832 points from 20 events. Vrushali Gumadi, India, has jumped one place to be ranked World No 97 with 17,400 points from 13 tournaments.
