Patna : India scored 350/4 in 50 overs against New Zealand in the 2nd ODI at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, on January 26, 2019, riding on a 154 run first wicket stand between openers : Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, their 14th century stand in ODIs. India opted to  bat after winning the toss.

Rohit Sharma, who had scored 11 runs in the 1st ODI, scored 87, his 38th ODI fifty, in 96 balls hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes while Shikhar Dhawan scored 66 in 67 balls with 9 fours, his 27th ODI fifty. Rohit hit Ferguson, 27, for 2 sixes and spinner Ish Sodhi for one six. Dhawan had scored an unbeaten 75 in the first ODI, which India had won by 8 wickets.

Dhawan fell to fast bowler Trent Boult when the score was 154. Rohit fell to fast bowler Lockie Ferguson when the score was 172. Captain Virat Kohli fell to Boult 43 in 45 balls with 5 fours while Ambati Rayudu scored 47 in 49 balls with 3 fours and a six. Wicketkeeper M S Dhoni remained on 48 in 33 balls with 5 fours and a six while Kedar Jadhav remained not out on 22 in 10 balls with 3 fours and a six. Dhoni and Jadhav were involved in an unbroken 53 run partnership for 5th wicket in 4.2 overs. They scored 21 runs in the final over. India’s highest total in New Zealand is 393/4 in 2009.
