Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) were 17/1 in 6 overs in their second innings at stumps on day 2 of the first test against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane, Australia, with opener Dimuth Karunaratne getting out to fast bowler Pat Cummins for 3. Sri Lanka trail by 162 runs.

Earlier, Australia were all out for 323 in their first innings with Marnus Labuschagne scoring 81 in 150 balls with 3 fours and Travis Head scoring 84 in 187 balls with 10 fours. Opener Marcus Harris scored 44 while Kurtis Patterson made 30 in 82 balls with 3 fours. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc remained unbeaten on 26 in 25 balls with 4 fours and a six. Captain Tim Paine was out for duck.

For Sri Lanka, pacer Suranga Lakmal took 5/75 while Dilruwan Perera took 2/84. Lahiru Kumara, Dushmantha Chameera, and Dhananjaya de Silva took one wicket each.

Sri Lanka were all out for 144 in their first innings with wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella scoring 64.
