Patna : World No 6 in WTA rankings and winner of Wimbledon singles title in 2011 and 2014 Petra Kvitová, 28, Czech Republic, stormed into Australian Open (AO) final on January 24, 2019, crushing unseeded Danielle Rose Collins, 25, USA, 7-6, 6-0 in the semi-finals. Kvitová has advanced to her first Grand Slam final since 2014. Collins fought well in the first set but was demolished by Kvitová in the second.
Winner of 26 career WTA titles, Kvitová won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Collins. She, however, also committed 5 double faults to 4 by her rival. Kvitová’s winning percentage on both her first and second serve ( 73% & 72 %) was much better than that of Collins ( 68% & 50%).
Kvitová won 7 games in a row in the match to 2 by Collins, who was playing in her Grand Slam semi-finals. Kvitová, who had won the women’s singles title at Sydney International, Australia, on January 12, 2019, won 40 service points to 34 by Collins, who had stunned World No 2 Angelique Kerber, Germany, in the Round of 16. Collins is yet to win a WTA title.
