Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V Sindhu, 23, India, and  World No 9 Saina Nehwal, 28, India, entered the second round of BWF Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2019 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Indonesia, on January 23, 2013, beating their respective rivals in three-games.

Second seed Sindhu beat 2012 London Olympic Gold Medallist Li Xuerui, 27, China, 22-24, 21-8, 21-17 in 54 minutes in the first round. Sindhu won 64 rallies to 49 by Xuerui, the World No 26. Sindhu won 7 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Xuerui. Both are locked 3-3 head to head.

Saina beat World No 50 Dinar Dyah Ayustine, 25, Indonesia, 7-21, 21-16, 21-11 in 49 minutes in the first round. Saina won 49 rallies in the match to 48 by Ayustine. But, Ayustine won 10 consecutive points in the match to 7 by Saina. Saina leads Ayustine 3-0 head to head.

Reigning Olympic and World Champion Caroline Marin, Spain, the World No 4, beat World No 39 Zhang Yiman, 22, China, 21-14, 2-8 in the first round in 32 minutes. Marin won 42 rallies in the match to 22 by Yiman.
