Patna : Reigning US Open champion and World No 4 in WTA rankings Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, crushed World No 7 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, 6-4, 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open (AO) at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, to storm into the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in her career.

Osaka served 8 Aces in the match to just 1 by Svitolina, who committed 3 double faults. Osaka won 5 break points to 2 by Svitolina. Osaka also 6 games in a row in the match. The World No 4 won 32 service points to 24 by Svitolina. Osaka’s winning percentage on both her first and second serve was much better than that of Svitolina.

It was Svitolina’s second quarter-finals appearance at the Australian Open. Osaka will play World No 8 Karolina Pliskova, who defeated winner of 23 Grand Slam singles titles Serena Williams, 37, USA, in the semi-finals on January 24, 2019.
