Raonic stuns World No 4 Zverev to sail into QFs of Australian Open 2019

Patna : World No 17 in ATP rankings Milos Raonic, 28, Canada, stunned World No 4 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, in the 4th round of Australian Open (AO) at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, on January 21, 2019, to sail into the quarter-finals of the tournament. Raonic, the 2016 AO semi-finalist, demolished Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-1, 7-6 in a major upset in the tournament.

Raonic fired 15 Aces in the tournament to 6 by Zverev, who committed 10 double faults in the match. Raonic committed just 1 double fault. Raonic won 6 break points to just 1 by Zverev. Raonic also won 8 games in a row in the match. Raonic’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve ( 79% & 58 %) was much better than that of Zverev ( 70 % & 43 %). Raonic won 56 service points compared to 50 by Zverev.

Crashing out of the tournament in the 4th round notwithstanding, Zverev’s ATP rankings will improve as he had lost in the 3rd round in 2018 thus gaining 90 points more in 2019. Zverev was trailing World No 3 and defending champion Roger Federer, 37, Switzerland, by just 35 points. Federer failed to defend his 2,000 points this year losing in the 4th round to World No 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, on January 20, 2019.
