Patna : World No 24 in ATP rankings Roberto Bautista Agut, 30, Spain, upset World No 7 and 2018 finalist Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, in a marathon five-set contest in the 4th round of Australian Open at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia, on January 20, 2019, to advanced to the quarter-finals of the tournament, his first in a Grand Slam tournament. Cilic had also reached Wimbledon final in 2017. Agut had defeated World No 1 Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of Qatar Open on January 4, 2019.

Agut beat Marin Cilic 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in a big upset in the tournament. It was Agut’s third five-set victory in the Australian Open 2019 in four matches so far. Agut had defeated two-time Wimbledon Champion and five-time Australian Open finalist Andy Murray, UK, in five-sets in the first round and World No 37 John Millman, 29, Australia, in five-sets in the second round.

Cilic fired 17 Aces in the match to 10 by Agut. Cilic committed 6 double faults to 3 by Agut. But, Agut won 5  break points to 2 by Cilic. Agut’s winning percentage on his second serve (75%) was much higher than that of Cilic (47%). But Cilic’s winning percentage on his first serve (75%) was better than that of Agut (69%). Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.
