Patna : Reigning Olympic and World Champion Carolina Marin, 25, Spain, beat World No 9 Saina Nehwal, 28, India, in gthe semi-finals to enter the final of Badminton World Federation (BWF) Malayasia Masters, a Super 500 level event, on January 19, 2019. World 6 in BWF rankings Marin beat Saina 21-16, 21-13 in the semi-finals in 40 minutes at Axiata Arena, Kualalumpur, Malayasia, on January 19.

Carolina won 42 rallies in the match to 29 by Saina. She won 7 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Saina. Carolina now leads Saina 6-5 head to head. Carolina had won world championship title in 2014, 2015, and 2018 besides winning the Gold Medal at 2016 Olympic. Carolina has won 28 singles title.

Carolina will face World No 8 Ratchanok Intanon, 23, Thailand, in the final. Intanon, the 2013 World Champion, beat World No 28 Goh Jin Wei, 18, Malaysia, 21-16, 21-16 in the semi-finals in 36 minutes. Intanon won 42 rallies in the match to 32 by Wei. Intanon leads Weo 2-0 head to head.
