Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and six time champion Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, World No 9 Kei Nishikori, 29, Japan, World No 17 Milos Raonic, 28, Canada, World No 19 Daniil Medvedev, 22 Russia, and World No 23 Pablo Carreno Busta, 27, Spain, advanced to 4th round of Australian Open (AO) on January 19, 2019.

Djokovic beat World No 27 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, in a tough four-set contest 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in the 3rd round on January 19, 2019, Djokovic won 8 break points in the match compared to 3 by Shapovalov. He also won 6 games in row in the match to 5 by Shapovalov. Djokovic’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve was much better than that of Shapovalov. Djokovic served 5 Aces in the match to 6 by Shapovalov. Djokovic committed 4 double faults to 5 by Shapovalov.

Nishikori beat World No 44 Joao Sousa, 29, Portugal, 7-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the third round to sail into the 4th round. Sousa fired 9 Aces in the match to 3 by Nishikori. But, Nishikori won 5 break points while Sousa won just 1. Nishikori won 9 games in a row in the match to 3 by Sousa. Raonic, who had reached the semi-finals of Australian Open in 2016, beat World No 55 Pierre- Hugues Herbert, 27, France, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 in the 3rd round. Raonic fired 23 Aces in the match to 8 by Herbert. Both the players committed 2 double faults each. Raonic won 3 break points in the match to 1 by Herbert. Raonic, the 2016 Wimbledon finalist,  also won 3 games in a row to 2 by Herbert.

Busta defeated World No 13 Fabio Fognini, 31, Italy, in a tough four-set contest 6-2, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the 3rd round to advance to the 4th round. Busta fired 10 Aces in the match to 8 by Fognini. Fognini committed 7 double faults to 3 by Busta. Busta won 8 break points in the match to 6 by Fognini. Both the players won 5 games each in a row in the match. Busta’s winning percentage on his second serve ( 55 %) was much higher than that of Fognini ( 26 %). Fognini had reached 4th round of Australian Open in 2014 and 2018.

Medvedev beat World No 22 David Goffin, 28, Belgium, 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 in the 3rd round to advance to the 4th round. Medvedev won 6 break points in the match to 3 by Goffin. Medvedev fired 7 Aces in the match to 4 by Goffin. Goffin had reached quarter-finals of Australian Open in 2017.
