Patna : World No 4 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Chen Long, 29, China, World No 5 Son Wan Ho, 30, South Korea, and World No 8 Kidambi Srikanth, India, entered the quarter-finals of BWF Malaysia Masters at Axiata Arena, Kualalumpur, Malayasia, on January 17, 2019.

Reigning Olympic champion Chen Long beat World No 11 Jonatan Christie 21-15, 21-18 in the second round in 45 minutes. Two- time former World Champion Long won 42 rallies in the match to 33 by Christie. He won 6 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Christie. Long now leads Christie 6-0 head to head.

Son Wan Ho beat World No 16 Kantaphon Wangcharoen, 20, Thailand, in a three-game encounter 11-21, 21-12, 21-12 in 67 minutes in the second round. Wan Ho won 53 rallies in the match to 45 by Wangcharoen. He won 6 consecutive points while Wangcharoen won 4. Wan Ho now leads Wangcharoen 2-0 head to head.

Srikanth beat World No 38 Wong Wing Ki Vincent, 28, Hong Kong, in a three-game thriller 23-21, 8-21, 21-18 in 64 minutes in the second round. However, Vincent won 60 rallies in the match to 52 by Srikanth. He also won 8 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Srikanth. Srikanth now leads Vincent 9-3 head to head.
