New Delhi : The Government of India on January 10, 2019, transferred Alok Kumar Verma, IPS (AGMU:79), from the post of Director, CBI, and posted him as Director General, Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards, for the residual period of his present term ending on January 31, 2019. This followed approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

As per the earlier arrangement, M Nageshwar Rao, IPS (OD:86), Additional Director, CBI, will  look after the duties of the Director, CBI, till the appointment of a new Director, CBI or until further orders, whichever is earlier, according to a PIB release.

Alok Verma was shunted out as the CBI chief after a marathon meeting of high-powered selection committee led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 10, 2019.
