India win test series in Australia 2-1 as 4th test ends in draw, Pujara Player of the Series

Patna : India became the first Asian team to return victorious from Australia winning the four-match test series 2-1 as no play was possible on the fifth and final of the 4th test at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney, Australia, due to bad weather on January 7, 2019, and the match ended in a draw, an anti-climatic end to the series. India has won a test series in Australia for the first time in 71 years, a historic series victory.

Cheteshwar Pujara was named Player of the Match for scoring 193 in the 4th test. He was also named Player of the Series for scoring 521 runs in the series including three centuries. None of the Australian  batsman could score a century in the series with opener Marcus Harris’ 79 in the first innings of the 4th test being the highest score.

Former Australia captain Allan Border handed over the Border – Gavaskar Trophy to India captain Virat Kohli. Virat kissed the trophy and handed it over to opener Mayank Agarwal. Virat said the India bowlers were lethal in the series dictating terms. He said that he had never been more proud of a team than this one. Virat made special mention of Cheteshwar Pujara. Australia captain Tim Paine said that India outplayed Australia in the last two tests and deserved to win the series.
