Patna : World No 239 in ATP rankings Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 33, France, and World No 16 Daniil Medvedev, 22, Russia, reached the semi-finals of Brisbane International, an ATP 250 point tennis tournament, at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, on January 4, 2019.
Tsonga, a former Australian Open finalist, beat World No 31 and 7th seed Alex De Minaur, Australia, 6-4, 7-6 in the quarter-finals. Tsonga fired 12 Aces in the match to 1 by Minaur. Both the players committed 2 double faults each. Tsonga won 2 break points compared to 1 by Minaur. His winning percentage both on his first and second serve was also much better than that of Minaur. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.
Medvedev, the 4th seed, beat World No 18 Milos Raonic, 28, Canada, in a three-set encounter 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Raonic, who had reached Wimbledon final in 2016, though hammered 29 Aces in the match to 12 by Medvedev. But, he also committed 5 double faults to 3 by Medvedev, who won 2 break points. Medvedev also won 3 games in a row.
