Bettiah : District and Sessions Judge, Bettiah, Abhimanyu Lal Srivastava, on December 22, 2018, sentenced to life imprisonment two accused : Navnit Niraj and Sunil Kumar, of village Pokharvinda under Mufassil police station, Bettiah, in West Champaran district, in the sensational murder of two sisters : Mamta Kumari and Samata Kumari, of the same village in 2017. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 each on Navnit Niraj and Sunil Kumar.

Mamata Kumari and Samata Kumari were daughters of Ram Pravesh Sharma of village Pokharvinda. According to Arvind Singh, Public Prosecutor, Bettiah, Munni Devi, mother of Mamata and Samata, had lodged a case with Mufassil police station, Bettiah, in 2017,  alleging that Navin Niraj and Sunil Kumar had burnt to death her daughters after pouring petrol on them. The twin murder had created sensation in the area.
