A police team led by West Champaran SP Jayant Kant had gone to remove encroachment at Gurwalia -Bharpatia from Bettiah Raj land under Mufassil police station, Bettiah, where encroachers clashed with police. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the protesters as they had started pelting the cops with stones injuring six of them including SP Jayant Kant, according to sources. The encroachers also burnt tyres on the road to block traffic on NH 727 near Manuayapul Police Outpost. Two persons were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, CPI (ML) Central Committee member Virendra Gupta charged police with attacking innocent people, who were residing there for decades.
