Patna : World No 2 in WTA rankings Angelique Kerber, 30, Germany, beat reigning US Open Champion and World No 4 Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, in a tough three-set contest 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in her second Group Stage match in WTA finals in Singapore on October 24, 2018. Osaka though fired 6 Aces to just 1 by Kerber.

Kerber committed 4 double faults in the match to 2 by Osaka. Kerber, however, won 6 break points to 5 by Osaka. Kerber won 3 games in row to 4 by Osaka. Kerbder had lost her first Group Stage match to World No 9 Kiki Bertens, 26, Netherlands, on October 22, 2018.

World No 6 and 2017 US Open Champion Sloane Stephens, 25, USA, beat Kiki Bertens 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 in another Group Stage match. Stephens had lost her first Group Stage match to Naomi Osaka on October 22. Bertens committed 8 double faults in the match to 3 by Stephens. Bdertens served 2 Aces to none by Steohens. Both the players won 7 break points each. Stephens won 4 games in a row to e by Bertens.
