Ara: The decision of state government to impart education to girl students free of cost from Intermediate to Post Graduate levl has increased financial burden on Mahant Mahadevanand Mahila Mahavidyala (MMMM), Ara, a constituent unit of the Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU).
Admission process for Intermediate to Post Graduate level has begun at MMMM and students are not being ‘scharged anything after the government direction. The decision adversely affected the women’s colleges. The VKSU has three woman colleges: one MMMM at Ara, and two Rohtas Mahila College and Mahila College, Dalmianagar, at Sasaram in Rohtas district. The college administrations are worried about meeting the daily expenses. With the money taken from the students at the time of admission, salary of adhoc teachers and contract teachers was being paid, internal expenses of the colleges met. But now the colleges have to terminate adhoc and contract teachers that would hamper teaching in these colleges. Now these women’s colleges are facing resource crunch.
Principal MMMM Kamini Sinha said that after the direction of the government the college is not charging a single penny from the students at the time of admission. She said 9,145 students study in the college from Intermediate to Post Graduate level. Earlier, altogether Rs 43,22,160 was collected as miscellaneous and Rs 17,11,132 as tuition fee from students. The fund thus generated helped the college administration easily meet its internal expenses including payment of adhoc and contract teachers, clerks and class four employees. But the college is not taking charging any fee from the students since 2015 and paid salaries to the employees appointed on contract basis from its internal resources but it has also exhausted now. The same condition prevails in all the three woman colleges under the VKSU, Ara. Principal Sinha said that the government should allot fund on time to the colleges. The college administration has sent details of its expenses to the university and state government but to no avail so far. She said in this background talking of development of colleges is just a joke.
