Ara court slaps fine on SHO, Ara Mufassil PS, for threatening woman

Ara : Additional District and Session Judge I, Ara, Ramesh Chandra Dwiwedi slapped a fine of Rs 200 on the Station House Officer, Ara Mufassil police station in Bhojpur district, Ravindra Ram on July 20, 2018, for allegedly threatening a lady inmate of Ara jail in the court.

Advocate, Ara Civil Court, Avnaish Kumar, said that police had arrested Mahesh Pawan and his wife Sandhya in connection with murder of one Dharmendra Kumar sometime back and sent them to jail. Sandhya has two sons aged 4 year and 2 year so she wanted to keep her children inside the jail on the plea that there was no one in her family to look after them but the SHO, Ara Muffassil police station, did not allow it.

Sandhya claimed that her children could not live without her and alleged that the SHO had forcibly snatched her children from her lap. Sandhya filed a petition in the court praying she should be allowed to keep the children with her inside jail. The ADJ I had directed the Bhojpur SP on July 18, 2018, to submit his report in the court stating where the minor children were staying, who is  looking after them and who is responsible for their safety.

The SHO appeared in the court on July 20 personally and threatened the woman prisoner in the court. He also showed his ignorance about the whereabout of her children.

The ADJ took it seriously and said that the SHO could not be careless about the children. The ADJ treated this act as contempt of the court and ordered to take the SHO under custody. After the SHO begged pardon, the ADJ slapped a fine of Rs 200 on him and asked him to produce the children before the court within 24 hours otherwise an FIR would be lodged against him for kidnapping the children.
