Patna : World No 10 in WTA rankings and 11th seed Angeliqur Kerber, 30, Germany, and World No 12 Jelena Ostapenko, 21, Latvia, reached the women’s singles semi-finals (SF) of Wimbledon tennis championship on July 10, 2018.

Kerber, the highest seed left in the tournament and winner of two Grand Slam titles, beat World No 14 Daria Kasatkina, 21, Russia, 6-3, 7-5 in a tough contest in the quarter-finals. Both the players serves 2 Aces each in the match. But, Kasatkina committed 7 double faults to just 1 by Kerber. Kerber won 6 break points while Kasatkina won 4.

Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open Champion, defeated World No 33 Dominika Cibulkova, 29, Slovakia, 7-5, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Ostapenko fired 5 Aces in the match to just 1 by Cibulkova. Ostapenko committed 4 double faults to 5 by her rival. Ostapenko won 5 break points while Cibulkova won 3. Both the players won three games in a row each in the match.
