Patna : Former French Open champion and World No 12 in WTA rankings Jelena Ostapenko, 21, Latvia, World No 10 Angelique Kerber, 30, Germany, World No 20 Kiki Bertens, 26, Netherlands, World No 33 Dominika Cibulkova, 29, Slovakia, and World No 52 Camila Giorgi, 26, Italy, entered the quarter-finals of Wimbledon tennis championship on July 9, 2018.
Bertens upset World No 8 Karolina Pliskova, 26, Czech Republic, 6-3, 7-6 in the Round of. Bertens fired 7 Aces in the match to only 2 by Pliskova. But, Bertens also committed 5 double faults in the match compared to 3 by Pliskova. She, however, won four break points to 2 by Pliskova. Bertens won 6 games in a row in the match to just 3 by Pliskova.
Kerber beat World No 56 Belinda Bencic, 21, Switzerland, 6-3, 7-6 in the Round of 16 to enter the quarter-finals. Both the players committed 4 double faults each in the match. Kerber, winner of two Grand Slam titles, did not serve any AC while Bencic fired 2 Aces. Kerber won 5 break points while Bencic won 3.
Ostapenko defeated World No 50 Aliaksandra Sasnovic, 24, Belarus, 7-6, 6-0 in the Round of 16. Ostapenko committed 6 double faults in the match to 5 by Sasnovic. Sasnovic fired 4 Aces to 2 by Ostapenko. But, Ostapenko won 6 break points to 3 by her rival.
Cibulkova beat World No 48 Si-Wei Hsieh, 32, Chinese Taipei, 6-4, 6-1 to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament. Hsieh had stunned World No 1 and top seed Simona Halep in the third round. Cibulkova won 7 brak points in the match to 4 by Hsieh. Cibulkova also won 6 games in a row compared to just 1 by Hsieh. Cibulkova will play Ostapenko in the QF.
World No 13 Julia Gorges, 29, Germany, beat World No 55 Donna Vekic, 20, Croatia, 6-3, 6-2 to enter the quarter-finals. Julia has entered Wimbledon QF for the first time.
World No 52 Camila Giorgi, Italy, beat Ekaterina Makarova, 30, Russia, 6-3, 6-4 to enter the quarterfinals.
