S Korea stun defending champion Germany in World Cup match

Patna : South Korea defeated four time champion Germany 2-0 in a Group F match of FIFA World Cup 2018 at Kazan Arena, Russia, on June 27, 2018, eliminating them from the tournament. Germany became the 4th defending champion to be eliminated from the tournament in the last five World Cup. Germany had won the World Cup in 1954, 1974, 1990, and 2014 and had finished runners-up in 1966, 1982, 1986, and 2002.

Defender Kim Young-gwon scored in the first goal for South Korea in the 92nd minute while Striker Son Heung-min scored the second goal in the 96th minute. This is the second occasion that Germany have been eliminated in group stages. They were also eliminated in the group stages in 1938.

Despite shocking the defending champion, South Korea too have been eliminated from the tournament finishing with 3 points. Germany also finished with only 3 points. Sweden and Mexico with 6 points each have entered the knock out stage from Group F.
